. . .

The golden peacock is flown, is flown,
And night has opened its golden eyes,
My shining treasure, sleep.

Night has opened its golden eyes,
I was the fiddle and you were the bow,
My fearful precious, sleep.

I was the fiddle and you were the bow,
And how fortune loved and bowed to us,
My tender darling, sleep.

And how fortune loved and bowed to us,
Left us alone, flew away, away,
My sad beloved, sleep.
